Rooftop Heartaches

[A/N: Had an idea while half-asleep one morning, and I haven’t really written much featuring these two. So I ¬†figured I’d give it a shot.]

Kanan found Riko on the roof of the school. It was a bright, sunny day, but the redhead was just staring emptily at her lunch box. She had barely taken a bite. Gusts of wind were rustling her hair, but she wasn’t taking any notice of it. Even when it flew across her face.

“May I sit down?” Kanan asked after she had walked over. Riko slowly looked up at her with dull eyes, then back down before nodding slightly. The older girl took a seat on the bench. She had expected to see red in those eyes, but perhaps Riko was past the crying stage.

Kanan hadn’t taken long to think it over before making her decision. She knew Riko’s heart was broken. In fact she and Mari might have been the only ones who had noticed. The rest of the group were so dense, buying into Riko’s act when she was with the rest of them. Chika especially needed to get a clue. But perhaps it worked in Kanan’s favour that she hadn’t.

Silly Lilies 3: Silly Diver

[Sequel to Silly Lilies 2]

Classes are finally over for the day, and Ruby is heading for the club-room. There is sewing to be done, and she’d like to get it done quickly. Hanamaru has invited her to go for ice cream with her and Yoshiko, and it really feels like forever since she’s gotten to hang out with those two. Normally she’d go to the costume room, but that’s technically not their room. They just use it when the drama club doesn’t. However the drama club has a play in the works, so they’ve claimed the room for at least the next two weeks.

It’s not a huge issue, especially today. The club-room should be fairly quiet. You has a thing with the swim club, Chika has to help out at home, and Hanamaru and Yoshiko left early. So it’s unclear if anyone else is going to bother showing up. So Ruby is banking on threading this needle in no time. She pats herself on the back for that clever joke.

Celebrated Gem

[Follow-up to Fallen Gem]

Hanamaru was proud of her role in getting Ruby and Yoshiko together. She was glad the two of them had made up, and seemed to be doing well together.

It was a bit of a lapse on her part to not notice Ruby’s feelings for Yoshiko before Ruby went and confessed. Maybe she could have helped make that all… less messy. She had thought she had a better head and eye for those things than both of them put together, but to her credit Ruby had managed to slip entirely under the radar.

There was also this new sense of confidence to Ruby now. Whenever she saw Ruby and Yoshiko together, Ruby seemed to be the one in the lead. Seemed like there was finally something someone was more shy about than Ruby, and Hanamaru could tell her friend found great joy in that. It was nice seeing them together.

Clouded Gem

Dia had confessed her feelings for Kanan and Mari before they went to Tokyo their first year. They had told her they’d give her their answer after they came back. After Aquors had shone on stage. But they didn’t shine. And Dia never got her answer.

Dia had agreed with Kanan’s reasoning, she just hadn’t predicted things would deteriorate as far as they did. Her confession got forgotten in the ensuing misery. At least by Kanan and Mari. Dia couldn’t make herself bring it up again, so she never got her answer.

She’s still not sure whether telling Ruby to give up on idols, and never talk about them again, hurt her sister or herself the most.

Fearful Reunion

[Sequel to: Fallen Angel Hunt]

Kanan didn’t have the full story. She only had Dia’s take on it, plus a few words from Hanamaru. And Dia was livid.

Which Kanan could understand. Dia was very protective of Ruby, and Kanan would have probably felt similarly if she had a younger sister.

And she agreed that Ruby and Yoshiko needed to talk this through. Ruby wasn’t doing well, and clearly neither was Yoshiko. Though the latter might be in part due to how Dia was laying into her.

Yoshiko hadn’t said much. Maybe Dia couldn’t pick up on it, but Kanan could clearly see the girl was feeling guilty and awful. What little she had said made it just seem like a misunderstanding gone horribly wrong, though Dia wouldn’t hear it.

Kanan knew she had to intervene, or they weren’t getting anywhere. It had already been 10 minutes they’d just been standing here, and people were looking at them.

Fallen Angel Hunt

[Sequel to: A Good Friend]

Dia was conflicted. She didn’t like the idea that her little sister was in love at all. Ideally that wasn’t supposed to happen until Ruby was at least 30.

She knew that was hypocritical, considering her own feelings towards Kanan and Mari, but this was her sweet little sister she was talking about. She was too innocent for these things!

Yet Hanamaru had told her all about it when Ruby had fallen asleep again. In truth Dia had had some suspicions. What else could wound a young girl so deeply but love? Dia had read the stories. She just hadn’t wanted to face the possibility of Ruby loving someone… that way. And Yoshiko of all people!

Dia was furious at Yoshiko. Worse than Ruby falling in love in the first place, was the fact that Yoshiko had broken her heart.
